On Monday, I spent an 2 hours putting the gun rack together, sanding it, and staining it. The only thing left to do on the rack, is to varnish it. It needs 3 coats of varnish. I finished my gun also on Monday. I spent an hour cleaning the glue residue off the gun. The gun is finally finished.

Today I spent 4 hours finishing up the gun. Me and Logan put the final template on. The only thing left for me to do on the gun is to clean the glue from the template off of the gun. After each template is removed a layer of sticky glue is left on the gun. The painting of the gun is totally finished.

Today I spent 11 hours at the Ruhd house painting the gun. After each coat of paint, it says to wait 2-3 hours so it will harden onto the wood. We had to wait, because we did not want to mess the gun up. We almost got the gun done, but we decided to call it a day and wait until tomorrow to finish up on the gun. The toughest part of painting the gun was putting the templates onto the gun. We started with a base coat of white to put on the gun. After we did that we had to wait, after the wait we used the template to put on a grey. The next color on the gun was a brown. Tomorrow we will be finishing up with a darker brown.

I spent 5 hours working on my gun rack. I drew the design onto the pieces of wood, and cut them out. I had to draw the designs onto paper i taped together, and then i traced the design on the wood. I also spent 4 hours working on my gun, using a degreaser so the paint will stick better. While doing that, me and my mentor Logan also worked used the degreaser on his dads gun also. Both of these guns are going to get painted on March 10th.

I spent an hour with Dalton finishing the drawing of the gun rack in the auto cad program. My mentor Logan also sent me a text message saying that the paint for the gun came in and that he planned on working on it during the weekend.

On Saturday, I met with my mentor Logan to get parts. He came over to my house and we ordered the Wintertwig package. The package came with an instructional DVD, a template, and paint. We also got a degreaser that we are going to use to clean the metal on the gun. If we clean the metal on the gun, we will be able to paint the barrel of the gun also. It took about an hour to get everything ordered off the website. Later that night I sanded the gun with 600 grit sandpaper, to get the scratches and dings out of the gun. If they are left on the gun, then the paint won't work as proficient. I spent about 2 hours sanding it down so it was smooth without any scratches.

On Friday the 2nd, I started sanding my gun. I sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper. Mr. Tvedt gave me some sand paper to use on it. I sanded the gun to get all the varnish/clear coat off. It took me about 2 hours to finally get the clear coat off, and to just get the gun down to wood.

On Thursday the 1st, I talked to my mentor Logan on the phone asking when he would be open to help me paint my gun. He told me that he will be home on the weekend, and that we can order paint and parts to get a start on it.

My gunsmith is going really slow with figuring out if he can, or can not finish the gun. He is not going to get the gun in time for when I need it done by. Incase he doesn't get it done I am starting up other projects. Me and my mentor Logan Ruhd are going to be taping and painting one of my guns that I have. I was on a website looking and thinking about ideas for about an hour. The one I think I am going to do is a winter twig template. http://www.houtsenterprises.net/dur_wintertwig.html.

Saturday February 18th
On Satuday, I called Cliff to see if I could come take some pictures of the gun. I went to Castlewood at 2, and took some pictures of the gun. He showed me what he had done to take the gun apart. He said that by the end of the week he was going to have it put back together to see if it is capable of firing. If by the end of the week he gets it working, I will be able to further the process of shining the gun up to make it look good. I am hoping that he gets it done, otherwise I will be coming close to the deadline of the project for me to get it done. When he gets it done he will make a stock for me to engrave to put on the gun. I was at the shop for 3 hours talking about the gun and for him to show me the processes he will be going through with the gun.

January 13th
Today I called Cliff, at Cliff's gunsmithing to check the status of the gun. He said that he had taken it apart and found out that most of the parts were still good, but some of them needed replaced. Cliff told me that he will call me in 2-3 weeks to tell me what I can come help him do on the gun. The things I am going to help him on are making the stock and personalizing it, and shining up the gun to make it look nice.
